If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use Margent. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are 18 or older and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement. We do not knowingly provide the Service to anyone under 18.

  • Connect bank accounts and import transactions via Plaid (read-only)
  • Set savings goals and track net worth
  • Split expenses and manage shared costs
  • Receive spending summaries and budget alerts via email and push notification

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the Service at any time without liability to you.

4. No Financial Advice

Margent is not a financial advisor, broker, or investment adviser.

All content, tools, analytics, and information provided through the Service are for informational and organizational purposes only. Nothing in the Service constitutes financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice. You should not rely on any information in the Service as a substitute for professional financial advice.

Any financial decisions you make based on data displayed in Margent are made entirely at your own risk. We strongly encourage you to consult a qualified financial professional before making significant financial decisions.

5. User Accounts

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Providing accurate and complete registration information
  • Notifying us immediately of unauthorized access to your account

You may not share your account, create accounts on behalf of others without their consent, or use the Service for any unlawful purpose. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

6. Subscription and Billing

Access to certain features of Margent requires a paid subscription. Subscription fees are charged on a recurring monthly basis through Stripe.

  • Trial period: New accounts receive a 30-day free trial. A valid payment method is required at sign-up but you will not be charged until the trial ends. You will receive an email reminder 3 days before your trial expires.
  • Auto-renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.
  • Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through Settings → Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access until then.
  • Price changes: We will give you at least 30 days' advance notice of any price increase. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
  • Refunds: Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law or at our sole discretion.

All payments are processed securely by Stripe. We never store your full payment card details.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our infrastructure
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Introduce viruses, malware, or other harmful code
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without our written consent
  • Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service

8. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party providers to deliver functionality:

  • Plaid — read-only bank account connection and transaction import
  • Stripe — subscription billing and payment processing
  • Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
  • Firebase / Google — push notification delivery
  • Resend — transactional email delivery

Your use of these services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third-party providers.

9. Intellectual Property

All content, software, design, trademarks, and materials in the Service are owned by Margent or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or sublicense any part of the Service.

You retain ownership of the data you enter into Margent. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store and process your data solely to provide the Service to you.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available"

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Margent disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any financial data, calculations, or third-party data imports.

11. Limitation of Liability

Please read this section carefully — it limits our liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Margent and its operators, officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunities
  • Financial losses or adverse outcomes resulting from your use of the Service
  • Errors or inaccuracies in data, calculations, or bank imports
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
  • Interruption, delay, or unavailability of the Service

In no event shall our total aggregate liability to you exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on implied warranties or liability for incidental damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Margent and its operators, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of or inability to use the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Any financial decisions made in reliance on information from the Service

13. Termination

Either party may terminate the agreement at any time. You may close your account through Settings → Account. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without notice, if we determine you have violated these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15) will continue in effect.

14. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

Please read this section carefully. It affects your rights regarding how disputes are resolved.

Except for disputes related to intellectual property infringement or injunctive relief, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by a nationally recognized arbitration body under its rules, rather than in court.

Class action waiver: You agree that any arbitration or proceeding shall be conducted on an individual basis and not as part of a class, consolidated, or representative action. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against Margent.

If the class action waiver above is found unenforceable, then the entirety of this arbitration section shall be void, and disputes shall be resolved in a court of competent jurisdiction as set forth below.

15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Subject to the arbitration clause above, you agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas for the resolution of any disputes not subject to arbitration.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email (sent to the address on your account) or by posting a prominent notice in the Service, at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
